We are a watersports venue that host multiple businesses that are committed to providing education and adventures in Wrightsville Beach

At Soundside, we pride ourselves on our warm and friendly staff who eagerly welcome everyone whether they are staying at the resort or not. Our venue is one of the few spots on Wrightsville Beach that faces west so please come by and check us out.

As a full-service destination, we take great pleasure in hosting a multitude of special watersports events throughout the year. From weddings and corporate retreats to family reunions and intimate gatherings, we are well-equipped to transform any occasion into a memorable and extraordinary affair. Our dedicated event planning team will work closely with you to tailor every detail according to your vision, ensuring that your event surpasses all expectations.

We love to work together and support each other. For example, every Saturday morning, you can find complimentary Sunday’s coffee at our gazebo! South End Surf Shop frequently sends customers our way, and we do the same for them. We also partner with local fitness studios such as E-Motion and Longwave Yoga to host outdoor workouts on our lawn and paddleboards. It is truly the people and local businesses of WB that make it such a special place. This collaborative energy extends into the sailing and outdoor adventure community, as well. We have worked with several unique brands that fit our vibe, including Dunsel (upcycled sail bags) and Nocs Provisions. We are always keen to partner with brands that work well with what we do!

Matty

Matty grew up in the area and pursued almost every watersport there is. After graduating UNCW he began a8 year journey sailing and teaching all over the world and realized that WB is arguably one of the best beach towns in the world. On a visit back in 2017 he was fortunate to stumble into Bill Baggett the owner of the Blockade Runner and began creating the vision for the Soundside that we are proud to share with the community.

Phoebe

Phoebe grew up in Michigan, where she learned to sail at a young age. She continued to race small boats and became an instructor at 15. She moved down to Wilmington, NC in 2019 to attend UNCW, double major-ing in marine biology and French. She was a member of the UNCW sailing team all four years, which is how she met some of our other staff! Phoebe loves being outdoors in any capacity, whether that’s on the water, in the woods, camping on Masonboro, or biking. Last summer, she obtained her USCG captain’s license, which has allowed her to run the sunset, adventure, and performance sails here at Soundside. Her favorite part of the job is sharing her love of sailing and showing people around beautiful Wrightsville Beach.

A Coastal Dream Realized

While the property of the Soundside has many iterations over the years it has always been a mecca for watersports. Its steady winds and proximity to Masonboro Inlet and the Atlanctic Oceans make it the ultimate location. Over the last several years Soundside the culture has been created by a culmination of Bill Baggetts vision for the Blockade Runner Beach Resort and Matty Roberts the current owner. Their friendship and experiences over the last decade has allowed this version of Soundside to come to fruition. We offer a unique experience that combines the charm of a beachside oasis with the thrill of watersports and exploration and continue to be dedicated to providing access to the local community.. At Soundside, we invite you to be part of our story, to explore the wonders of the coast, and to create your own unforgettable memories.
