Thank you for reaching out to Soundside WB regarding ASA 101 certification !

The 101 course is a two-day (16 hour) course perfect for beginners that teaches the mastery of sailboats up to 25’ in moderate wind conditions. Skills taught include: basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety.

Upon graduation, you will receive ASA certification, and you will be ready to safely and confidently skipper boats of 20 ft. On completion of your certificate, you can rent the J/22 on your own to further develop your skills and confidence. To learn more about ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing click here.

CURRENT ASA 101 SCHEDULING

If you don’t see any classes that suit your schedule then please let us know and we are happy to create classes and recruit others to join. We need two students enrolled to offer a class and we maintain a max ratio of 4:1 students to instructors. Sailing has its own vocabulary and once you are confirmed for class we will immediately mail you a course book to read in-depth prior to beginning the course.

THE SAILING
EXPERIENCE

Soundside WB enjoys a prime location on Wrightsville Beach with access to the calm waters of the sound, ideal for both beginner and intermediate instruction.

Experience a complete compliment of sailing conditions to navigate including day marks, tides, and other coastal variations.

Our fleet includes J/22s, Hobie Waves, and two large cruising keelboats: Allana and Zoe.

EASE INTO SAILING

If you are joining us from out of town (or even looking for a staycation) we are happy to provide you with a discount at the Blockade Runner, when registered for a class. Just let us know and we’re happy to help with reservations.

PRICE

The two-day ASA 101 course is $800 per person which includes: ASA 101 book, ASA Certification fees, 1st year of ASA membership, and a 1 hour J/22 rental after the completion of your course.
