Waiver Completion

All students are required to sign the NC Foil School Waiver before beginning the lesson. This ensures that everyone understands and agrees to the safety guidelines and participation terms.

On-Land Training Session (10 minutes)

Your experience begins with a 10-minute land-based instruction led by a certified coach. During this session, you'll cover:

E-Foil Basics: Understanding how the electric hydrofoil board works

Controller Operation: How to safely and effectively use the handheld remote

Safety Guidelines: Key safety measures and how to respond in various situations

What to Expect on the Water: Overview of riding positions, progression, and tips for success

This session sets the foundation for a safe and enjoyable water experience.

First Water Session (20 minutes)

Time to get on the water. In this initial session, you will focus on:

Belly Riding: Learning to balance and steer while lying down

Knee Riding: Advancing to a kneeling position to gain more control

Touch-and-Go Flights: Attempting your first brief lifts on the foil to get a feel for flying above the water

Your coach will provide live feedback and encouragement throughout this session.

Rest and Review (10 minutes)

Take a quick break back on land to recharge and review your progress. This is a great opportunity to:

Ask Questions: Clarify anything you're unsure about

Receive Coaching Tips: Get personalized advice based on your performance so far

Prepare for the Next Stage: Learn what’s coming next and how to improve your technique

Second Water Session (20 minutes)

This session is all about building confidence and advancing your skills:

Refining Knee Riding: Improve stability and control

Standing Up (If Ready): Attempt to ride the foil in a standing position

Extended Touch-and-Go Flights: Focus on timing and control to sustain short foil flights

You’ll continue to get guidance and feedback from your coach throughout.

Optional Extended Session (Additional 30 minutes)

If you’re feeling confident and have the energy, you may choose to add an extra 30-minute session. This bonus time allows you to:

Practice Sustained Flight: Work toward longer, more stable rides above the water

Develop Control: Fine-tune your balance, speed, and maneuvering on the foil

Maximize Water Time: Make the most of your experience while the skills are fresh

Just let your coach know if you'd like to extend the lesson.

Frequently asked questions

What should I bring?

Wear clothes you're comfortable swimming in. Know the water temperature and bring a wetsuit or other appropriate gear to be comfortable if the water is cold. Waterproof Sunscreen.

Are there any requirements or restrictions I should know about?

Yes, all students must sign the NC Foil School Student Waiver before the lesson. Participants should be comfortable in deep water, as falling and swimming short distances is a normal part of the experience. Instructors may end a lesson without a refund if a student behaves unsafely or is not water-competent.
